Hi guys, this one is more of a think piece – hence the length behind a bit less than I usually write . Hope you enjoy reading and even more importantly hope you agree…
There’s an issue that needs to be addressed within the Black community, the issue being Outlandish views on the way ‘Alt’ subcultures dress, seeing this and then associating this with femininity.
Why are we shaming Black men that want to surpass the stylistic standards that are expected of them?
A recent tweet regarding a couple uk underground artists wearing Osbatt pieces, amongst other brands, drew attention to my eyes – and where I usually roll my eyes then scroll past, I couldn’t help but comment.
Comments I’ve seen coming from other men include adjectives such as;
“Weird” “feminine” “lesbian” and “unoriginal”
I’m confused as to why the first solution we run to when we don’t like something is homophobia? Being unable to articulate yourself in a way that doesn’t include irrelevant insults proves you lack open mindedness and your knowledge when it comes to fashion is very limited.
Ultimately stems from misogyny – Black men hate Black women and a lot of fashion trends are inspired by them. I’ll leave you guys with that to think about.
Thanks for reading,
Until next time,
Megankamangawrites.
