MAMA MÍA: Song Review & Interview with Vingtsixx

Leeds based artist, Vingtsixx, graced me with early access of his new single set to release tomorrow evening. If you aren’t already familiar with him, I’m glad i could be the one to introduce you to him and music.

The music he writes is greatly inspired by his own personal experiences, things he has seen or heard from other genres. His goal is to make something for everyone while still always remaining himself.

One of the first things I thought it was crucial to know about him was why he chose the name,

“I’m a UK artist but want hopefully expand into other markets and with a French name I feel like that will definitely help. Reason two, 26 {which when translated in French is Vingtsixx} is the day I lost someone very close, I think this is a kind of cool yet discreet way to remember them. Lastly, it’s a name that you have to try to pronounce if your not French which I think makes it stick in your head more.”

For the past few weeks he’s been promoting a teaser of his new single set to release tomorrow evening, ‘MAMA MÍA’ which could only be catagorized as having a funky and addictive sound, however this is unlike any of the music I’ve heard from him before. I respect the willingness he had in branching out and trying something new.

If you ask me the music video, edited by @mostwantedpresents looks promising. There are definitely shots I prefer way more than other but the ambience in the song is mirrored in the music video.

Despite the element of surprise that I was greeted with when I first listened to ‘MAMA MÍA’ I can confidently say that this track stands out as my favourite amongst all his releases. The creative choices made throughout the piece contributes to the appeal and sets it apart from his previous works. ‘MAMA MÍA’ not only showcases Vingtsixx’s growth artistically but also resonated with me on a personal yet fun level, making it an indelible addition to his discography.

Megan:“What was your thought process behind writing ‘mama mía’ and how long did it take to write?”

V:“I honestly had no thought process for this one because the beat alone makes you want to stand up and bop so I kind of followed the beat basically and let it take the lead on this one. The lyrics, chorus and flows were literally already decided by the beat I just had to put ‘Vingtsixx’ into it to bring it all to life.”

V:“The verse and pre hook took me like a day but the chorus even though its simple it took me about 3 – 6 days, sometimes the simple choruses are actually the harder ones because when there’s not a lot words to say, the words and flow you pick have to be correct.”

megan:“what’s your favourite bar and why?”
Postcode surrounded by evil course we want better. Been through the cold been through the windy weather”

V:“This would definitely be my favourite bar. Maybe because it’s the one with most substance but yeah, it’s self explanatory really. I don’t come from the brightest place, me and my friends been through some dark times as I’m sure everyone has but we all still want better for ourselves which is important to me it’s important to still want better still have hope no matter how dark it gets.”

Megan:“what can we expect to see from you next?”

V:“Definitely don’t expect the same exact sound because I liked to experiment some more but every sound you hear from me me onwards won’t sound the same. My next song is… what’s the word, a high tempo American jersey sound with some UK grit ?/09/24 very soon.”

As for MAMA MÍA, 7PM tomorrow. Be there!

Thanks for reading,

Until next time,
